Graduate Student Loan Information
Federal Student Loan is available to US citizens and permanent residents at graduate level provided they are enrolled at least half-time and making satisfactory academic progress in a degree program. Those who are not eligible for Federal Loans may consider borrowing a private loan.
Federal Student Loan Application Requirements
Please review the Graduate Federal Financial Aid Information including interest rates, fees and consumer information for the 2026-2027 academic year.
To apply for Federal Loan for the 2026-2027 academic year, please submit the following:
- 2026-27 FAFSA, School Code 002573
• Eligibility of up to $20,500 (for non-professional degree programs) per academic year in Unsubsidized Direct Loan (subject to pro-ration for half-time enrollment).
• Limits may be higher for returning students enrolled in certain health profession programs. Returning federal borrowers can also apply for Federal Graduate PLUS Loan. - Dartmouth Graduate Financial Aid Application
• Confirms your enrollment and collects anticipated outside resource information.
After receiving the necessary documents, the Financial Aid Office will review your eligibility for federal loan, and provide a financial aid offer letter that outlines your eligibility. You may be asked to complete additional requirements through studentaid.gov to accept the loans.
Your offer will include the maximum amount of federal loan that you are eligible for based on the standard Cost of Attendance.
Please contact our office if you wish to decline any loan or reduce the amount of loan being borrowed.
Private Educational Loans
Student loans from private lenders are available to finance some or all of your educational costs.
- Explore options from Dartmouth’s Lender List and apply with your chosen lender. Once approved, the lender will notify us to certify your loan amount. The amount you can borrow is limited to the Total Cost of Attendance, less any other aid awarded.
- Complete the Dartmouth Graduate Financial Aid Application if not already submitted.
